Ford 1900 engine oil capacity?

I have recently acquired a Ford 1900 compact tractor. I have the original owners manual from 1982 or 1983. The manual says the engine crankcase capacity, with filter change, is 6.3 U.S. quarts. However, when I changed the oil, I had to put in 8 quarts to bring the oil level up to the full mark on the dipstick. Is there a misprint in the manual? I am always nervous about overfilling a crankcase! Comments are appreciated!

I've been thinking about this as I also have a couple Shibaura/Fords. I believe the capacity is 6.3 Liters which puts the quarts closer to 7 and then the dipstick is at a sharp angle to the oil level instead of being up/down like normal engines. If not perfectly level a little slope can show up on the dipstick.
