hello
I bought what i believe is a ford 2000 industrial tractor with a 3 tier forklift attachment on the rear end. The tractor runs but has no power steering. Previous owner stated he thought it was the pump.
I pulled the pump, disassembled and was quite corroded and worn. I replaced with a new pump.
I pulled the steering assembly. took it apart. Found a bend steering arm and a broken spring inside the steering valve. I replaced both with new steering arm and new spring. I replaced seals and installed per the manual and the tractor steers manually without issue but I still do not have power steering.
I cleaned steering valve, everything sliding good. I replaced the plungers and special plunger with the attached picture. I connected cylinder hoses in the order in which I took them off, I have also reversed the way the cylinders are attached to the valve but no change. I can witness the steering shaft move up and down and actuate the plungers in the steering valve
power steering fluid comes out of the return line in the reservoir tank when the tractor is running. I only have a 300psi gauge but it will max out when i dead head the pump.
cylinders can pump fluid/create vaccum when pushed and pulled at the cylinder and lines disconnected/connected
I have triple checked the plunger/spring placement in the steering valve, have centre spindle with identification notch up as (have also tried with down). adjusted lock nut as identified in service manual i,e tighten until no play and reverse 1/6 turn. The steering valve cleaned up good no corrosion so don't believe it is a defective valve component.
kinda running out of ideas why the power steering isn't working.
1st and 2nd pic is how i assembled the valve, 3rd pic is valve on tractor after restoration. 4,5 is before pictures so I knew how to put the lines back the way they were.
any thoughts??
thanks for the help
