Just picked up a Ford 4000 gas tractor, Would appear to be between a 1965 and 68 model.

Has a group 75 battery on it that is no good. Is this the right size battery to have on this machine or is there a better/more appropriate battery?

Thanks in Advance.

75 is a side post battery used by GM at one time.
78 is also a side post but fair amount larger. . I don't know what factory original was .

Well original factory is not super important, as long as it fits in the spot and has enough cranking amps. maybe this one is not a 75 becuase it is top post. but it is marked 75 UT

There is such a dual term 75 and 78 batteries. They have top and side posts. If you want top post some possibilities are 24 24F 65 and 31. 22F would be close in physical size to 75UT.

I switched my '73 4000 to a group 78 battery and swapped out the cables for the side post types. I hook up a battery tender to it for a few days at a time every couple of weeks during the winter when it's not being used, alternating with my other equipment . The batteries last about 10 or 11 years.

I stepped up to an AGM H8 at Walmart 2 years ago. Posts are on the inside by valve cover. They are not too tall.

They make a top post style but the posts are recessed. I have been using this style for years.
if you're tractor is like most of ours the battery hold down is long gone.
I take a cheap rachet strap and cut one of the hooks off and go around the battery tray and snug it up. Then cut the strap to length.

I am not sure, I see you have to raise the hood to get to the battery, That is not how mine works.

I will have to get some pics, of it, So we can compare notes.

If you have a 4000 that you don’t have to raise the right side of the hood to access the battery you likely have an older 63-64 4cylinder model
That or someone has relocated the battery
