Ford 4610 grinding gears

I have a Ford 4610. If in neutral when starting engine to shift into gear, the gears will grind. If I clutching and shift into gear before starting there is no grinding. In neutral with engine running it sounds like gears are grinding. Any ideas on what is going on or what I may need to do to correct this.

Look down the page of threads. There is one titled "Ford 3930 Gears Grinding". It sounds like you have the same issue. Some good advice has already been given there.

Do you have a manual for the tractor? Fluid check would be first, Clutch adjustment would be next. Might have clutch replacement and or transmission rebuild on the list.
