Ford 5000 Hydraulic barely working after sitting a few months. PTO shaft not turning as well.

I have a Ford 5000 diesel tractor. It has a 777F loader on it. I replaced the hydraulic pump 2 years ago and it was working well. I parked it for about 4 months and now the pto lift will raise after several minutes. The loader will partially work. Any advice will be helpful. I put a pressure gauge on the loader line and at first nothing but after switching the lever ubder the seat it goes up to about 1000 psi.

hydraulic pressure is basically resistance to flow, meaning the pressure you are seeing is what it takes to raise the loader. if you are trying to see what the pump / relief valve is doing you may have better results deadheading the system. good luck

In case you’re not familiar with hydraulic terminology “dead heading” essentially means forcing the system to bypass its pressure relief. That can be accomplished by running the cylinders completely extended or retracted and then momentarily holding the lever once motion has stopped and reading the gauge at that time.

Hello werkelleys, welcome to YT! What is a PTO lift? PTO is a turning shaft.. “power take off” are you talking about the 3 point hitch will raise? Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level? We only know what you tell us.
Yes I added fluid to the tractor and when i checked later a couple of days it was overfull. Sorry about the wrong terminology on the rear lift. The 3 point hitch is the only thing that will go to full open. The loader only partially lifts. I am obviously new to this so any help is humbly appreciated.
Should I add a gauge in line? Do you have a better place to check? The pic is the lever I was talking about when I said I have to move it back and forth to make anything work.

Thank you for the information. The gauge i used was plugged in line i disconnected the quick connect and used it that way. Also the pto stopped spinning.

When you plugged it into a remote the fluid has nowhere to go so that was dead headed, that is a good test. Your pressure is low though should be around 2000. The PTO stopped? I assume the pump you replaced is on the engine?

It's in the back on the right side behind the step and brake pedals

The PTO does not turn anymore.

You may have blown the small nylon line that goes from the pump to the pto clutch pack. We used to replace it with copper tubing. If you do, make sure to make a full loop in it, to absorb vibration. The top cover needs to be lifted off for access, and remember there is a recessed bolt hidden right under the lift arm shaft on the right side. About the only other thing that will stop the pto, that quickly is the aluminum clutch piston cracking.

Thank you also for the information. I will have to wait for a couple rain free days to pull the top. Can I see this problem from the left side access? When I changed the pump I had to replace the hydraulic strainer because the end cap had come off. Is there anything else to look out for while I have the top off?

I don't know if it can be seen from the left access plate. Been too long since I have into one.

BUT. That does not explain the pto not working as it uses the second pump, or
The low pressure pump that is around 160 psi or a bit better. The nylon line is out of the high pressure pump, or the primary pump. Both pumps are in the same housing
