Can't tell if the mounting holes line up properly because the nose hits on the flywheel. The starter won't insert all the way and the nose won't let you turn it far enough to line up any holes.

I doubt it will work, if the ring gear is on the flywheel rear by the pressure plate. The Delco type shown is for FRONT mounted flywheel ring gears.

Moot point as the starter won't bolt in anyway, even though it was advertised to fit a Ford 172 engine.

They agreed to reimburse me for the return shipping. Old starter fixed and ready to go back on the tractor.

Well, they lied. I got a refunded minus the return shipping charges for an item that didn't fit the engine as advertised. Very disappointed in the vendor. Let's see what Ebay does about it.
