Fordson major backhoe engine swap/renovation

I bought a fordson major backhoe with a blown engine, I got offered a motor that was less than what it would cost me to rebuild the blown diesel engine. It's a 1964 Fordson 5000 super engine with a simms minimec pump, it also has an FL head. My old engine block is good and the head is a rebuildable core if anyone wants to buy it.

For the fuel injection pump I am probably going to put the old simms vacuum governed pump on the new engine (It was a rebuilt one) I will sell the minimec pump and coupler to anyone that wants it.

I'm going to replace the gaskets and inspect the bearings before I put the engine in. The engine is missing the camshaft but I believe mine will fit, I know I will lose like 4 horsepower from doing this and the pump, and I don't really care.

I've been told the front axle bushing is a different size but I will just make a new bushing/sleeve in my lathe. One interesting thing to note is that I have a decompression valve on this engine, I live in Canada so maybe the Northern engines were equipped with decompression valves? I attached a picture and the actual lever is missing but that hole is where it goes, and I have the lever just not attached.

If anyone has anything to add thats great but I am mainly just wanting to document this for anyone who wants to do it in the future. If you are doing this on a backhoe or a loader you don't need to take off the loader, you just need to take off the front "tombstone" counterweight and then unbolt the engine. Once its unbolted you need to slide the engine far enough so that the front bracket clears the C frame and then you lift the engine straight up. You can do the clutch without fully pulling out the engine too.

I would Not Switch the injection Pumps. Fitting is different as is the timing. Youp end up with two faulty engines instead of one good and one bad engine
