Are the grills and hood the same on a G and a GM?

Yes they are.

According to the JD parts book, the GM and later G up through S/N 52175 use the same hood. After that, the internal brackets and various other parts of the radiator shutter controls were changed. The earlier hood (S/N 13000-52175) is slightly different in appearance as there are (2) rivets going through the hood on the clutch side to fasten a shutter control bracket to the inside of the hood. The later hood (52175-end) will not have these rivets. Hope this helps.
