Gleaner Baldwin A and A2 questions

Wondering if someone could tell me what year the Gleaner Baldwin self propelled combines Model A SN:23863(I know production started in 1957 ??) and an A2 SN: 30044 were made? Guessing the latter is an A2, because they started at SN:30001 ??
Do they have many interchangeable parts, headers? Thanks in advance, Ralph.

Its been a few years sence I had them but here is what I know, The first A were the short round back with an orange round fuel tank. Second series A s had an engine change, hydrolic up grades and changes to the sheet metal and fuel tank. The A2 had bigger grain tank and drive axle were made heaver. The last A I had was serial# 28813 1964(I think) and I had a 330 corn head and 13ft grain head off an A2 on it. Most of the parts will interchange between the 3 series but there are a few parts that wont. Wish I had my books here to tell you more. I allways liked the A,s they ran and sounded good and did a real good job cutting and shelling and cleaning the grain. Hope this helps. Bandit

My old A handled the 330 with no problem, There still some floting around out there. Next time I come across one I will let you know. Bandit

The 1st A Gleaner SP combines were built in 1951 (51A9001 1st serial #) and had a flathead Ford 6 cyl engine...If you ever find one buy it immediately...Theres one 50 miles away that cuts fescue every year..

#23863 is a 1960 model..

#30044 is a 1964 model..

A close neighbor bought a brand new A Gleaner combine and 1850 Oliver tractor in 1964..

Thanks, 1206. I think I got the '60 A secured... will find out in a week or so, the other is "not for sale", YET.... working on it. It sits in a "barn", bit rough from the elements...

Allis Chalmers had a factory here in the UK producing model B tractors; rotobalers and allcrop 60 combines. They had a very good dealer here at Newark on Trent and when in the early 1950s he was demonstrating a new selfpropeled combine that had been sent over for evaluation from the USA but the UK factory did not take it on. 1206SWMO, I had a neighbor that had an early 50's A Gleaner Baldwin that I'm pretty sure it had a flat head Hercules 6 cylinder in it. Does that sound right?

I think the Hercules was overhead valve. I only ever saw one. The stand out feature which caught my eye was a gear drive water pump.
The Baldwin brothers used Ford originally, then I think the Hercules came after AC bought the Gleaner, then they put the Buda 230 in. I didn't realize the Ford was a flat head. I had thought otherwise. I've never seen one.

Bob B...Thanks for your help....might there be someone out there that has a Gleaner A2 with 3 row corn head that could supply pictures or measurments on sheaves that would slow cylinder down....ours simply runs too fast; and I would like to correct problem this winter..
