Got a bunch of work done on my 530

Finally got my 530 ready to go to work. Replaced the pto clutches and the too shaft and a couple bearings that were bad. Put a new seal in the live power shaft while I was there. Had a leaking seal on the brake shaft, so i put new seals there and in the diff lock shaft. Had to take the axle out to do that.

Those seals in the difflock shaft were a bear o get in. I tried everything to get them on when they were in the pinion, but I just couldn't get them to start on the diff lock shaft. Had to put it together first, then put the new seals in with a very slim punch. Also put new seals in the 3pt cylinder. It had a missing plate on the left side floor, so cut a new one for there.

Gave it a new seat and muffler as well.

I will get an original recovered when I can and get it closer to original. It was jumping out of gear in the hi/lo range, found the fork was bent and that caused it to jump out of hi. Talked to Jonathan Woodrum whi has a lot of parts for these smaller cases and he had a cure for the low range issue. He suggested welding the detent slot shut and milling a new one so the fork moves further. Did that and it worked well. Doesn't jump out of any gears now. Here is a pic of Bonnie getting ready for her first drive. This is her tractor.

Worked on the timing a bit and that helped with the miss it had and now it doesn't smoke as much as well. I'll put it on the grinder/mixer in a day or so and try it out again.

That 530 is getting some much needed love. What a great little machine those are.

You do these repairs like your in your forties and in unbelievable time. Maybe you could sell tickets for old farts like me to watch, and your wife selling refreshments for a little side income. lol Thanks for sharing.
I would have to call it a comedy show if I sold tickets, I leave out how many times it takes to get things done right. And it would have to be adults only, sometimes naughty words slip out. Lol

Looks like a big project. I would not tackle a job like that. How do you find the time???
I don't hunt or fish or anything, so this is what I do to relax. I work weekends mostly, but I took a week off for projects this week, so hope to get a few done.

DO those aftermarket seats like you have bolt right up to the easy ride pan or is their engineering involved?

Just had to drill 4 holes in the plate. The slides on the seat are on slides so they can be any width. Just bolt those to the frame and slide the seat on. Was pretty easy.

Another happy customer, & another great post from jon f!
I do get some odd looks when I call that kind of work fun.

jon had a customer in today and he has to change that little seal on the shaft , can he do it without removing the side gear , not much room in there , did you pull the old one with speical tool. jc

Which seal? The pto seal can be changed easily if he has a slide hammer. The diff lock seal would be tough to change without taking the pinion out. I don't know what you could reach in there with to remove the old ones. You can put the new in if you can get the old out. There are 2 identical seals on the diff lock shaft

Diff lock seaI? I sacrificed a right-angle O ring pick, ground the tip short, thinned it a bit and put it in under the lip, turned it 1/4 turn and used side cutters grabbing the pick shaft at the end of the shaft and popped it out. Did many of them, I would get a piece of exhaust tubing before the seal is removed, put it in against the seal and put a hose clamp on the tube so the seal can be located where it belongs, using the tube as an installer. A quick note, early tractors sometimes had two seals, do not know if they were factory installed or put in on a previous repair, the new seals are designed differently so the spring loaded lip sticks out past the seal body, the original was a flat seal so 2 could be installed without the lips interfering. We had the special drivers at our shop but usually not available to the public. On a rebuild I of course did the seal with the side gear on the bench but never when just a seal replacement was needed.

John Saeli sent me 2 seals for mine. Mine is a 68 model.

It was common practice to put 2 seals with the old flat seals but I do not see that in the parts breakdowns, Maybe John has a service bulletin concerning this, the new seals are built differently as the rubber sealing surface sticks out in front of its metal cage, if 2 new style seals are installed they would have to be spaced so the rubber part of the second seal does not hit the back of the first installed seal or it would crush the rubber on the second installed seal.
