Got Tricked

A couple months ago I was in the market for a new angle head grinder. I was searching the internet for something and found a Metabo web site. They weren't the cheapest but they were made in Germany, NOT CHINA. As I was ordering my wife said "you may as well get two". I did. I used one yesterday for the first time and I sat down to take a break and was looking at it and guess what? MADE IN CHINA. False advertising. Ellis

Well, that's a downer. I've always held Metabo in high regard.

I just visited their website. You need to be more careful about statements like this.

companies get it mad where ever it is the cheapest for years already. No loyalty to country or workers. Just the money these days.

About 20 years ago I wanted to buy a honda 4 stroke weed Wacker.
The closest thing I could find was a Husqvarna 4 stroke,
I had to clean the carb. When I removed the carb, I saw on the engine in bold print HONDA!
I guess I bought what I was looking for.
I don't think I can buy the same weed Wacker.
I have 3 DeWalt right angle grinders. Parts are made in China and assembled in the USA.
Go figure.
Milwaukee tools are made in China.
Sad to say the best tools are not made in the USA,

When I bought my right angle grinders I bought the grinder that uses the most amps. 10 amps.

Doesn't matter where it is made, what matters is where the specs are written. China can make outstanding proucts if the specifications call for it.

in america the metabo grinders are rebranded hitachi products i believe. everywhere else in the world the metabo products are still made in germany and are excellent products. i found this out when i tried to replace a old metabo grinder i had. good luck

I have both the old and the new Metabo grinders. The old one is a work horse and you can tell by the weight and feel of it. The new one feels cheaper and lighter. The old one was made in Germany, the new one China. My bet is the old version will out live the new one...

Hitachi bought Metabo back in 2017. All of the Metabo power tools that you see for sale now days are just rebranded Hitachi.

I have a few Hitachi power tools (circular saw, 10" compound mitre saw, drills, grinders and a few others) and must say that they are good quality. The 4" angle grinder is at least 10 to 15 years old and has been trouble free from day one. When I bought my tools they all came with a spare set of brushes but I have never had to use any of them. Can't say if they still come with spare brushes or not.

I would not hesitate to buy Metabo tools.

My Metabo 4.5 grinder has been a good one. Pretty much as well made as my Milwaukee 4.5. My Makita 4 inch has to be at least 30 years old and still working. My cheap Menards Tool Shop only cost $10 about 15 or 20 years ago and worked well until the cord started fraying where it enters the tool. It didn't have the power of the others though.

While this is true, there is also a need for adequate on site inspections. An associate was having a relatively inexpensive item produced in China, then my customers started having problems. My associate had bought a full container of them. I had bought a lot of cartons of them from him. I dug into it and found the problem, but the owner of the mfg. refused to do anything for us.

I have 6 Metabo grinders. All made in Germany. Up to this point they have been the only grinder that would stand up to my use. I buy 100 4 1/2 wheels at a time and 50 flap discs at a time. They last me about 3 months. I really hate that Metabo is now made in China, I probably won't be buying any more.

Not all metabo tools are made in China.
Metabo is actually split into two separate companies.

Metabo GmbH = Europe. Tools are made in Germany or Poland. Professional grade.

Metabo HPT = USA. Tools made in China and other South Eastern countries. Mostly DIY grade sold in big box stores.

So instead of bashing the entire company. Just choose the quality you want to pay for.

And in 2023 Metabo opened a factory repair service in Braselton, GA.

I have one of the little Makita 4" also, I can't even remember when I bought it, but it has been through h--l and back several times, replaced the cord at least twice. Finally brought it home from the farm shop, where I play with tractors, for a bit of semi retirement. Replaced it with a HF 4.5", which I seriously doubt will last near as long. We had one of the original Metabos at the cannery farm shop, when they first came out, good little grinder.

I can remember when the same bad mouthing was applied to Japan.
And then one day, Japan made products were the big thing to buy. Honda, Yamaha Kawasaki.

China will go the same way.

maybe if they could keep their economy going but they are on the verge of collapse. Look it up.
