about ten years ago i got rid of all my live stock so the old h has been living with a problem where if i pull it back in 5th it will pull along just fine but then it "coasts" it will slip out of gear. not hard jump bang or any thing. just gathering information to help me decide to tear into it or not. if need be can the 4,5 slider come out the front or will the top need be raised? i know the input drive can be removed through the front. ive had been all in the transmission but i cant do that any more so i may just have to live with it :(

It may be as simple as a worn shifter? Check with John
at JP Tractor in Missouri. He will assess your mechanical
ability and help you out.

From 70 years of wear, the 4/5th slider is worn, along with the shifting fork, and the 5th gear input shaft/gear. 5th gear is direct drive straight through the
transmission. this is done with splines on the input gear and 4/5th slider. when the splines are coupled, the shafts turn as one. the 5th speed is (as you know) about
18mph. to get up to speed the common practice id to start in 4th and shift on the fly into 5th with a bit of grinding. That is what usually makes it start to jump out.
The splines get tapered and shorter as they wear on both pieces. The carrier pilot bearing between the two shafts can also wear and allow misalignment that makes it
worse. The shift fork can be welded or brazed to make a better fit, but the essence is replacing the two gears, input and 4/5 slider. This site sells the 4/5 slider and
input shaft. serial number breaks are needed. The bearing can be obtained from Motion industries from the part number or cross reference. Jim

I just got my internet back it pulls fine as long as theres pressure against it. if you let off the the throttle for a second it will ease out of fifth if you go down a small grade it will slip out of gear
the 4-5 slider and input drives wasnt in there but about 5 to 8 years when this started happening. they were both new at time of install. i was physically able to take the top off and replace. now i cannot do that any longer my legs have just about gave out on me. its a real big chore for me to just get on the tractor now. but i can work from the ground.

basically i was wondering if the 4-5 slider could come out the front like that bearing and the input drive shaft. if it need too. i really dough it but i thought i would ask i appreciate you time

I think the issue will be the shifter fork in the 4/5 slider the platform probably needs to lift 2 inches to clear the top of the fork into the rail. much can be done
through the belt pulley hole as well, but it is heavy (if equipped) A harbor freight floor crane or other source, might be a useful device for this and many other tasks.
Mine has pulled small trees, concrete at rotted posts, and heavy mechanical iron. Jim
