Hardware for Mounting Lights to Fender

Does anyone know what hardware is used to mount the OEM light bracket to the fender? I've looked in the May 1949 Parts Manual and it doesn't show the hardware. It is part of the fender brace and mine was missing a bolt, and the other was a hex bolt someone threw in there. I want to get it right and didn't know what was originally used and what length.

Any ideas on what the proper hardware is?

Round holes in the bracket would indicate a hex head bolt or machine screw to me. A carriage bolt would need a square hole. With a lack of other info on the fasteners, I would use all the same type, either hex or machine screw. Length would be a thread or two beyond the nut when tight.

I can do that and was going to, but thought there would be a listing somewhere or someone would know from a past restoration.

Thanks.

Two N sitting here on one all the hardware is hex head bolts.
On the other I would wager they have never been off the top hole has a carriage bolt the others hex heads. All the bolts on both use a flat washer under the bolt heads. Those washers look trashy to me, I would have to look again I thought the top bolt holes in the brackets were slotted.

I have never put those brackets back on never thought I needed a rear light on'em. I have a N with a rear light but used lights I already had in my stash from another application.

It does not have to be original to me just function and function better than original is what I shoot for.

Thanks Hobo. I looked and no holes are cut for a carraige bolt so that means using hex bolts and washers. I agree in saying that it looks trashy and a carraige bolt would look much better. Oh well, regular hex bolts it is. Not gonna loose sleep over it. Not a show tractor but trying to make look as nice as I can. Gonna be a semi retired tractor doing parade duty around farm and maybe plow or cut grass a little for fun.

I use carriage bolts as I think they look better than a hex head. The carriage bolt head matches the original OE rivet in shape and size (if any are still remaining on your tractor). You will have to grind the square neck of the carriage bolt so that the head sits flush to the bracket. I start with the bench grinder and finish with a dremel.

This pre 50 N is spose to be picked up in the next few days so I looked at the light bracket again. A round head bolt was used only at the top of the brackets, hex bolts on the lower part. I looked closer they are machined to accept a wrench I thought that was cleaver.

This is a 52 I brought 20 some years ago from the original owner. I would wager they have never been taken off.

My understanding is that the lights were always a dealer installed accessory for many years, so I would imagine they used what they had available at
the time.
