Be sure to examine EVERY tooth on the flywheel ring gear to be SURE none are damaged/bent over/broken or there's nothing wedged between them. Even a rodent nest in the flywheel housing that gets ingested by the gears can break the starter "nose cone". Check the ignition timing and that the impulse (magneto) or centrifugal advance (distributor) are working properly, you don't want to have the same thing happen again.

3 different starters used. Check number on tag. Probably a 7905

The tractor is a UPS with a 1107977 starter there are two others that will fit 11076051, 11076059. There aren't that many starters around that will fit this tractor This is a common thing that happens to this brand of starter.

There is a bunch of used moline parts outfits a few are on here. There was Quartman, riverdale, windy hill restorations, Welters in Missouri to name a few. Do an internet search also a good starter shop should be able to do something with those numbers. You may find a nose cone if that is what broke?

If your armature shaft isn't bent all you heed is a nose cone. I have them. The main reason they break is because operators don;t pay attention to the decal on the back of the fuel tank.

This starter has a weak casting. They break after a period of time. Thanks for the info you have provided.

Not a common problem. Never seen a broken nose on a U. 7977 has one tooth different on drive. MM changed ring gear in 1951 getting ready for the 12v.
