Help with MF 2200 backhoe

Rigrocker

New User
Just purchased a 1969 MF backhoe and I cannot find anyway to measure the hydraulic fluid. It does not have a dipstick on the transmission or the side of the differential. The filler port is on the loader frame which looks to be a vent cap. The person I bought it from over filled it and when I started operating the machine fluid overflowed from the fill port. I would think there would be a dipstick on the cap. Please help I don't want to run it to low. Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Going forward you may get more responses it you post about your Massey Ferguson on the Massey Harris and Massey Ferguson Forum down below here in the Manufacturers Section.

Is there a small pipe plug, about halfway up, on the right mast post? If so, that would be the level check for the reservoir. Some of the loaders did have a dipstick that hung from the fill plug, any were lost. You can likely use a tape measure to measure to the oil through the fill hole to see if it half or a bit better up the mast.

An operator's manual will give you maintenance info on your tractor. The Massey Ferguson publication number for the 2200 tractor Operator's manual is 690817M2. The loader and hoe originally had separate model and serial numbers. Each originally had a tag on them. With the model numbers there may be manuals available. You can search to see what manuals are available for your machine at AGCOpubs. (link below). Also I took a snap of the search I used. When they show an assembled service manual it means they put the pages and dividers in a MF three ring binder and ship that to you. The packet option is all the pages and dividers mailed to you, which you put in your own three ring binder, at a considerable saving. Unless they have changed their downloads are not pdf format, I got one and I have to have Flux Player (I think That is the program to open it.) You can use the MF publication number to search for the right manual places like eBay. Again, your loader and backhoe models need to be identified to get the right manuals for them.
