hill drop vs drill type corn planter

I am looking at an IH 250 corn planter and it is a hill drop planter. I am not familiar with a hill drop planter. Does it need seed plates and does it function differently from a JD 290.

Thanks

It uses seed plates. Hill drop means it can be set to plant several (usually 2-3-4) seeds in a group, rather than drilled one after another in a row.

Thanks for the response. Can it be set to work like a drill planter-one seed at a time at a certain spacing? I appreciate the help.

You will have to disable the mechanism that trips it at the spaceings set IF theres NOT a setting that allows for constant drop
