Good thing about using a smallish generator is you can use it for other things too if you don't need the air compressor at the time.

A lot of people have been glad to have a 1600W generator . To operate the fridge , freezer , microwave , sump pump , wifi router and charge phones .

Best I recall hp is a function of torque x rpm. Without going in the weeds I wonder about adequate start up torque ???? A genset to power the unit at 120 sounds easy enough. Or a 12vdc to 120 inverter but you need to figure the watt hour battery storage capacity and how if it can be charged fast enough

Another consideration is the air pump (compressor) speed. Many recip compressors use a splash oil system to get a little oil up to the wrist pins and rings. Check with the manufacturer about the minimum speed to achieve sufficient lubrication.
