I have a Ford 5000 tractor. I purchase the the tractor a few mounths ago with a fuel problem. I had the injector pump rebuilt, and installed new injector's. The tractor still not running right. When you start it, the tractor will smoke white smoke follow by dark brown are black smoke. after a few minutes the smoke will clear up. Also the tractor is very hard to start in cold weather (below 55) it will smoke white !

A friend of mine had symptoms like yours with his ford diesel pickup after having the pump rebuilt. It turned out that he had installed the pump drive one tooth or notch off from what it was when he took it out. If that's a possibility with your tractor, that will need to be corrected first. If that's not possible, here's what my source says about timing the engine: Ignition mark location: flywheel. Retarded timing BTC: 19 degrees. With timing mark on flywheel and arrow on timing hole aligned, align timing mark on the drive gear adapter hub with timing mark on pump housing. (source: MOTOR truck and diesel repair manual; professional service trade edition-34th edition)

If all of this seems like Greek to you, a New Holland service person and/or manuals may help you with in-depth, detailed info that will get you where you want to be with this repair. I know you don't want to damage a good machine with guesswork, "starting aids," pull starting, etc.

Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.
