How to adjust wheels inward on JD A , B, G

Over the last few months I have been searching for ways to adjust the rear wheels inward on my JD A on rusted axles , and all I could find is how to adjust them out , or remove them. So after some thought I came up with this method which I hope might help others.

First i removed the locking clamp and started soaking the hub with PB Blaster and Superzilla. After a few days, of constant soaking , I constructed a puller by attaching a chain to the studs on either side of the axle frame , and attaching a threaded rod to the chain , and passing the rod through the hub. I jacked up the wheel and added nuts to the threaded rods and tighten them down as tight as i could. I also was hitting the hub with a 5 pound hammer, but not real hard. After a 10 to 20 min I let it rest and returned after a few hours and repeated the process of tightening the nuts and soaking with PB Blaster and hitting with a hammer..

After about 8 hours of doing this off and on, I started to see some movement of hub about a 1/4 inch. I continue to soak it every day and tighten the nuts and hit wit a hammer when I had time. After a few more days, the hub had moved about an 3/4 ion an inch. Now When I tightened the nuts I could actually see some movement of the hub. After some more soaking and hitting with a hammer, I had the wheel moved in a total of three inches so that my tire was 36" from the center line.

Now to keep the hub from moving back out when I start driving, I drilled a 1/4 in hole through the axle and inserted a bolt. This will keep the wheel from sliding out when driving.

I hope this helps others.

If the tractor runs, drive it down the road. Last 2 A's I moved wheels on only took a trip around the section 4 miles.

I need to get the pulley off and I've been trying to get mine to move either way with no luck. Chained the center with a 6-ton jack on the end of the axle, wedged the hub apart with PB and a rosebud, wouldn't budge. I even took the eight bolts out of the flange and the center would not come off the flange. Been driving it around some with everything loose and it still hasn't come off.

Grandpa says they used a 16 lbs hammer back when they moved one annually on the G for plowing. They didn’t care as much about the paint then. Still have the hammer wish we had the G. Your method looks much better.

I had one on a G that was stuck so bad that after 4 days of trying to get it loose I finally got the seawall out and cut the hub part that was on the axle. Even after it was in three pieces it took quite a bit of beating on it to get it loose. I just put the 3 pieces back together and tightened the clamp up and it is still holding after 12 years of tractor pulling with it.
