Hydra Power Woes

The mower was not a happy buy. Not at all.

I'd forgotten about this video.

You might take note of the pipe. I've since decided to sell it rather than attempt to weld it. It's an extremely high carbon alloy. High carbon, and welding, doesn't get along well together. I've never been fond of welding API pipe. It's allright for fencing, but I don't want to stand under it with a few thousand pounds on it. High carbon content can make for underbead cracking............cold cracking. You won't know it until you put it into service, then it can catastrophically fail.

You get a lot of pipe around here that's sold as "structural" pipe, when in fact..........it's either used API pipe, or API mill seconds. It AIN'T structural steel. Mild steel, usually A-500, is made for welding. Oilfield pipe is not. Some guys are ok with it, but I'm not. I was pretty desperate when I bought this stuff, but time has made the decision to sell it off easy. A guy should never really think about using stuff that he knows isn't appropriate for the application........no matter how desperate he is.
