I don't want more wood.

I have a nice pile of dry wood ready to split and burn this winter, and probably the next. Then another pile after that. I take the dog for a walk every evening. we pass by my wood pile each day, today the dog stops, and looks at the wood pile. I thought she was looking at a rabbit, no rabbit. She notices something is different. Sure enough someone came in today, and dumped a large load of cut wood next to what already have. Not real happy about that. I have been spending a lot of time at my shop lately, it's a wonder I didn't see them today. I think I will put a free wood on Craigslist, and maybe get rid of it. This is the second time this has happened. Time to put up a no more wood sigh. Stan

Free wood ad would be a mistake, IMO. You will need a guard on your dry wood pile.

Californians are weird. Here in NY they want you to cut it up and haul it away for them, and then PAY them $75 per face cord (1/3 of a cord for those who have "never heard of a face cord," also known as a "rick" in some areas) for the privilege.

Didn't you run out of firewood last year and have to cut more? Or was that someone else?

Butch,
That's what I thought too. Advertising "free wood", might mean that you show up at your shop... and find ALL the wood gone - dried firewood n' all.

Chief,
Might be time to "get your tech on", and put up a good quality game cam to video the wood-dumpers (hopefully capturing their license plate).

I had a good stacked pile, and toward the end of the season last year, but had to split more.

That was last year. I have no split wood for this year. I need to get busy and haul some wood to my house, and split it for this winter. At least I have plenty of wood. Stan

Why would you be upset with person giving you free wood and even delivering it to you? Around here folks pay for cut up wood for their campfire or backyard fire pit. Sell the extra and have some lunch money unless your crazy state does not allow campfires.

Some "cut up wood" means giant chunks of tree trunk with knarly crotches all to big or tough to split by many.
I can see tree removers being glad they found so poor soul to dump that kind of "cut wood" that is too big to chip.
Instead of having to pay a landfill.

I have enough wood now for maybe three years. In three years I will be 85. Even though I can still cut and split wood, after close to 45 years burning wood I am getting tired of it. Time for a gas furnace. Stan

Most folks around my area that used wood for heat have went to pellet stoves. They even have cooking grills that use pellets. Even though corn is plentiful, corn gums up the stoves so people use the pellets. As I stated above, most wood I sell is mostly for campfires and fire pits.

Illegal dumped wood on my property is gone. My daughter put an add on Craigs list, and had a bunch of calls. A couple pickups took some, a trailer and a couple guys got the rest of the big pieces. Stan
