IH 650 bad head/gasket

IH 650

New User
Trying to resurect an ih 650, I've got it's all in running order but I've got pressure still building inside the block. I've removed the thermostat for which it was stuck, but still building pressure and blowing coolant out of the overflow tube. It's also blowing alot of white smoke out of the stack, and missfireing, and a lil sluggish on power.

Any help is appreciated for which I'm new to the 650 thanks in advance

yes, most likely cracked head. probably why it was parked. common on that 350 engine.
needs a tear down.

I have a swd9 and it would bubble and blow foam out the over flow tube. I tore it down and found a suspicious spot on the head. But it
checked out fine. I also noticed on the head gasket that there was a slightly blown out area and discolored. I changed out the gasket and
had the head resurfaced (slight warp) seems to be fine for last 2 years. I wasnt getting oil in water or water in oil. I even bought the
exhaust gas tester for the radiator which was negative. Another thing i found out from the people more familiar with these big horses is the
possibility of a cracked sleeve. If your sleeves have the ridges do not buy the case ih head gasket. It is metal one side fiber on the
other. That gasket works for the flush sleeves. U need the metal on both sides if your sleeves have the ridge. If the head is bad there are
a couple of places that back there work. Not a cheap fix. If you have questions call me 920 946 3875. I might have parts or can give you a
hand.

I have a shed full of these old tractors. Sounds like a cracked head, I have never had one with bad gasket. I have used gaskets from CaseIH on every
on of my with no problem, They are not metal on both sides, that style is on gas engines. If you need a gasket , I,m sure I have one (I no longer
need . Good luck finding a good head

It's more than likely the head but I'm stumped. It's building pressure in the block instantly from a cold start kinda makes me think a gasket but I'm new at this stuff so I'll take all the info I can get, but wouldnt it build pressure after the engine started generating heat on the crack if it was the head. Unless it's got a major crack in the head.

Finally tore the head off and sofar where thinking the gasket is bad, but gonna send the head to get pressure checked. But did discover it's got an overbore in it at 4.625, one piston needs replaces any ideas where to locate one? And could anyone tell me where the heads are most likely to crack at? Thanks
