My dads 706 pto wont engage and the valve on the pto feels super free like it is not connected to anything. On another forum i saw that someone said that theres a pin that could break and cause the valve not to work. I suspect and hope this is the problem but how does a guy replace that pin if it is the problem? In the manual i do not see the pin.

Don't I see 3 pins in your picture? near the top with a hole for cotter pin.

Remove the linkage from the spool. Remove the large nut with the seal, 1 and 3/8 wrench. Now if the spool comes out the top the small roll pin is broken. The spool is supposed to be removed out the bottom only. If you can remove the spool out the top, you only have half of the spool. The other half will come out the bottom where there is a plug. This pin that holds the two halves of the spool together is very very small. With the spool back in one piece, to install it, the draw bar plate needs to be removed. Complete spool needs to be installed from the bottom, then large nut and new seal and oring. Before the square nut is removed from the spool, count the number of turns to remove it. Should be a jam nut to hold it from turning. The spool has a small hole through it, I just use a small Allen wrench to put in the hole to hold the spool from turning to remove the square nut. Hope this makes sense. Now if half the spool won't come out the top then the pin is not broken and the pto will half to be removed

Yessir this is what i was looking for. Thank you!

What MRFred didn't say is you want a pail under it or you need the tractor headed down a steep slope or you will have oil running out from the bottom plug you need to remove to get the bottom half out and the whole valve back in. Other wise he is spot on for the fix. It is just a small pin.You will wonder why it even holds when you see it.

I took it all apart and the pin is fine. What should i do next?

The next thting I would do is check oil level after reassembly. With level at full mark if no go .Change filter if not done in this session already. If done then it is time to check if the rear remotes ,brakes, power steering all work if they do then time to check pressure on PTO. If you look down the left side of the PTO bracket you will find a hole in the steel bracket. Now there is a plug there you need an adapter to screw in there with a gage to check pressure. I use a grease hose in the adapter with the gage at the enn of the hose . Easier to read that way and get in and out. If no pressure you found your problem if you do have pressure then probably you need a new PTO clutch or at the very least new seals. Now the pressure should be in the 24-300 range and I'm a bit high on the top end. Been several years since I did this . IF you have low pressure like 20-50 PSI you can turn that square block at the top of your valve stem down to raise and up to lower. I am going to guess your pressure is low like in the 75 PSI or so or you will find your remotes ,brakes and steering are not working. If the remotes , brakes and steering are not working or not working well like with the remote lever pulled and the steering wheel turned then your spline in the pressure plate is stripped. Meaning it is split time. This will require a new pressure plate at the very least. IF you need to go that route get back to us. There are things that would be the practical way to go, and ways to get around some it if you need to cut some cost.

For starters, does power steering, and hitch and hydraulic outlets work?? If so then you will have to remove the pto. When removing take out all the long bolts and one short one in the lower left corner. Do not remove the other two short bolts that hold the two halves together. Will probably have to drive a small chisel to crack the gasket loose, they stick really good. While removing, the unit will have to be tipped so the suction screen does not get damaged. If the shaft that drives the pto comes with the unit it will have to be tapped on with a hammer and long punch at the coupling. After the unit is out you can put the shaft back on the front coupling for installing. A service manual will help you greatly. Don't forget to drain all the oil😀 and have an extra hand available, this thing is heavy.
