Int 464 head scratcher of a fuel problem

This has me stumped and any help is greatly appreciated. Gas engine 464. It runs great in all ways. Couple months ago it developed this problem of quitting heading uphill. Runs great downhill and level. Have cleaned the entire fuel system, to the extent possible. Fuel flow to the carb is good. Cleaned the carb multiple times. Polished the needle valve, blew everything out. It will start and run fine for a little while and then start quitting again. I raised the float level a bit, inspected everything and can find no issues. The fuel solenoid that prevents dieseling has been removed for years. Suggestions?

Yessir, and like many people I found it the hard way some time ago. This particular one was replaced with an inline filter. Thanks for asking. Much appreciated..

I think it's in your gas tank, the flow is being blocked off by something? Could be rust, on my 574 it was some gooey crap like dead bees or? not sure exactly - Once cleaned out though, hasn't died in years.

I think you may be right. I have tried to clean it out but the way this tractor is built makes a proper job a major project. Frustrated really bad with this. Thanks for your help. I will figure out a way to try to clean it.

But you said..
Fuel flow to the carb is good.
It seems to be a question of if you checked the fuel flow once, or did you check it every time you had the carb off? Then there is the question of how your tractor is being used? If you are only driving the tractor around not loading it with an implement than the additional fuel needed to enable the tractor to negotiate an incline is a symptom of inadequate fuel delivery. Otherwise if you are plowing and it pulls the load fine until you go up an incline then you are looking at a different problem that is almost certainly carb related. Also I believe that tractor has a fuel pump. If that is not functioning properly that could also be part of your problem. If there is a problem with dirt/debris in the tank flushing it out in place with the sediment bowl removed is one step that can be taken. Also you can get an add on screen that goes in the top of the sediment bowl as shown in the link. Sediment bowl screen YT also sells them but their $14.99 flat shipping fee applies.

Your points are valid and quite frankly I am still trying to sort some of those things out. I have amost decided the fuel pump is the problem but I have never known a disphran pump to partially work, they either pump or they dont. Thanks for your help. I will look at it all.

... not really true. Diaphragm can be cracked and leaking and result in reduced pressure; if it's filled the bowl with bubbly fuel there may not be enough in there but to barely keep it running. It could feasibly run all day at light/ no-load, but when there is demand for more fuel, the pump may not be able to keep up.
