Step 1 of my ZTU restoration is complete. I soaked the cylinders and surprisingly the engine turned free. I continued to soak it all weekend and the engine is turning smoothly with the handcrank now..
My exhaust manifold is cracked clean through. My friend gifted me a ZTU exhaust manifold that is intact.. But it is welded at one of the turns. The family member helping me was saying not to use it since it's welded and go find a good condition & unwelded manifold.
Not discrediting my family member at all, but I thought about it and finding an unwelded, good condition, exhaust manifold for a later ZTU could be a long wait.
Is there any harm in using the welded manifold for now? At least as a stop-gap. Mechanically, any reason to think that it would crack again at the weld? Has anyone used one like this before?
Sorry if a dumb question. This is my first restoration and I would've just used the exhaust manifold I had been given until my helper made me second guess.
