Is this good deal? 1939 Allis Chambers B

I certainly wouldn't be worried about finding parts for a B, there is a lot of aftermarket parts available for those things and also plenty of them in the salvage yards. But agree on getting on and off a few times the older we get the tougher that gets.

Get on and off it a couple times before you hand over the cash.
Yeah, getting on and off a B or C can be challenging for ol' guys but not "insurmountable". LOL
That forward mounted "drawbar" will make it easier to mount from either side.
$1,000 is not a lot of money in this day and age and no matter how long you own it if you take good care of it, it will never be worth less than it is today.

if its what your after , i would not be wasting time here asking questions, as it could be sold right from under your nose at that price.

If we all used Ole Georges thinking how many steam tractors or early ICE tractors would not be at shows now?
What percentage of steam tractors sold are still in operation?
Each to their own. It's your money.
I'm entitled to my opinion, just like you are yours.
My Dad bought a first Generation Ford 6000.
How many people would buy a F6000 with SOS?
Not me.
Good luck buying parts for a 1960 F6000 with SOS and if you did you most likely would junk it out before paying for parts and good luck finding someone that can fix it.
How many F6000 do you see next to a steam engine? :D

Looking at maybe picking this up but not really familiar with AC tractors. Location in Ohio if that helps. Thanks for any advice!

A great price for a tractor that looks like that. I just wonder why something so good looking and cheap hasn't been snatched up by now. It's been on Facebook for at least seven weeks.

I don't know how they sell there but around by me they seem to be for sale for a fair amount of time. Definitely go look at it and get on it and drive it around. Sometimes you have to be an orangutan to get on and off of them. But they are fun for me to drive. As far as parts-lots around and at somewhat fair price. B's and C's share a fair amount of parts. Check the brakes. OK I have two B's and they are my favorite. Just listed the downside. If I was looking for a tractor I would sure think about that one. Or you could do like some of us, brag about how cheap we got one but never admit what we had to put into it.

If it runs and drives as good as it looks it is a bargain. Looks like it has hydraulics, I see a ram sticking out the back in one shot. PTO must be engaged for hydraulic pump to work. You might check transmission for coffee colored oil, a sign it had a cracked or missing shifter boot at one point and water got in. And the final drives are worth a check for ancient oil, they are often overlooked. Parts are not an issue, widely available. This looks like an older one, hand brakes, look for serial no. near shift lever and find a serial no. list to find year, will be around 40 probably.

I get an uneasy feeling about buying a tractor that is no longer in production.
My neighbor has a 1950s case tractor. The tractor runs fine. Parts are no longer available for his power steering.
It uses a quart of oil in 4 hours.
I have a 2000 and 2004 Terramites. Terramite went out of business, Parts are no longer available.
That is a little scary.
Recently Bane Welker, Case/IH dealer lost it's Kubota dealerships in Indiana. Bane Welker has about a dozen dealerships in Indiana.
Now I have a 2019 Kubota L3560 and no dealer support. I hope Kubota gets its act together before something major happens.
It's about 4 hour drive for me to haul my tractor to my Friends place in Dover Tn.
I heard of a guy in Kansas that drove to Terre Haute and cut the trees around a AC tractor and hauled it back for a parts tractor.
Conclusion, Think about some parts may not be available when you buy a 1939 used tractor.
At first I had a feeling that you might be pulling our legs George ... but as I continued reading, it seems you are serious. Somehow this website and the parts that are sold from it and other suppliers would indicate that the hobby of buying, selling, and collecting old tractors is alive and well.

Since the OP lost the sale on the tractor it may be ok to hijack this thread now...That's a beauty, it is a straight 8?
Yes. That was the main reason I bought it 29 years ago. Came a long way since then.

Good buy. I bought a 1943 C for 900 and had to restore it. That one looks good. Where are you in Ohio? I may be near you.

The PTO to run the hydraulics would suck to use. Like those old N series fords that had that nonsense. I'll keep the H PTO is good and hydraulics are separate from the PTO. So you can not have to have the PTo on to use hydraulics. Also a bit more tractor than that.
