JD 4020 gas oil pressure

How is the oil psi maintained on the 4020? By adjusting the regulator on the side of the tractor you can set the psi , so what is the oil pump relief for and what psi will it relief at? If I set the regulator psi to 30 psi is this suppose to maintain this pressure within reason from going higher? My 4020 will make very high oil psi at startup until it warms up and then will maintain 20-30 psi depending on rpm. In cold cold temps the oil psi could reach 100 psi + until warmed up, one time splitting the oil filter can. I have run 10w30 in winter and 15w40 in summer.

I'm not familiar with the 4020 gas engine but engines in general usually don't filter all your oil all the time, many only 10% or so at any given time. That being said 100lbs cold seems a bit much in my opinion, I would think a bypass should prevent that. I have never seen an oil filter split from over pressure and the relief valve should not allow that to happen imho... But I've been wrong before. Someone more in the know will be along shortly.
