JD 730 PTO clutch shaft oil seal replacement

Oil is leaking out the side where the PTO clutch shaft sticks out... looks like it would simply be replaced from the outside, wouldn't have to take the PTO housing apart. Anyone able to confirm? Also, is there an oil seal between the PTO area and the transmission housing? I might have oil from the transmission getting into the PTO housing, but not sure. They were both a bit frothy as if they got water mixed in with the oil. I suppose rain water could have got in the PTO housing through the leaky clutch shaft oil seal, or could have just been condensation in both PTO and transmission housings. After replacing the oil seal on the 3-point hitch load sensor shaft, there doesn't appear to be any water getting in the hydraulic oil anymore.

Yes, the PTO clutch shaft seal can be replaced form the outside, clean the shaft very well before installing new seal. The seal(s) between the PTO and transmission, much different answer, the rock shaft housing has to be removed, lots of work.

Is the PTO housing over full of oil? If so, will have to do as rmcky said. Seal AA5247R on PTO shaft is bad! If so, check the bushing A4795R and shaft with clutch drum AF2766R for wear. That would be why the seal is bad!

If the PTO housing is over full, before committing to removing the rockshaft to replace the seals, make sure the higher level isn't due to water.

I opened the fill port to look inside, it's a bit milk chocolate colored, so must have some water in it. The level wasn't high enough to see it there, but there's a big gear in the way of seeing much of anything. I turned the PTO by hand (not running) to see the oil come up on the gear teeth. I think there's a level check screw on the side somewhere, I'll have to check the book on that. I changed the oil in it about a year ago, and it was very milk chocolate looking then. That was shortly after I bought it, so don't know when the last time it was changed before that.
