JD power unit fan belt

We have a couple of 4 cylinder diesel Deere power unit engines that I am having trouble finding the correct fan / alternator belt for from the dealer. The engine ID tag reads as follows..

Type number is 4219 DF 01.

The serial number is 489281 T.

The JD dealer is having difficulty allegedly because they are saying this is an incomplete engine tag, yet both machines have the same number of digits in both codes. I am on belt #6 that is still incorrect on fitting. I did take the old belt with me that has a legible Gates number of A 49 printed on it, but we cannot cross it to a Deere number and it also fits fairly deep into the pulleys. Does anyone know what the correct Deere part number would be for this belt, or a way to cross the Gates number over to Deere number ? It is essentially the same engines as found in a JD 6000 hiboy but utilizes a different belt.
Ideally I'd like to find a notched belt if possible to install on them.

If the Gates number is A49, just take it to NAPA. Deere is often pretty clueless as to what was supplied with power units. I've been down this road with irrigation power units- in some cases, I think some of the engine accessories (like alternator, etc) were installed by the engine distributor, and Deere itself might not have been involved, making coming up with a Deere part number near impossible.

How was the fan mounted, some 4219DF power unit set ups used remote mounted fans. If just going around the crank pulley, water pump pulley and alternator pulley, check out a JD R97758 belt. I just checked and that is what was on a 4219DF I picked up. The problem with power units is, even if you know what the engine is, the manufacturer using the engine may have installed some components of their own, which JD does not have info on.

Other than trying different belts, I would measure the top width of the crank and water pump pulleys then use a cloth tape to measure around the outside of all the pulleys involved to get a length. I would fit an auotmotive belt that fits, not an ''A'' series belt.

Power units can be manufactured / assembled with many different water pump options which changes the center line distance between the crankshaft and water pump centers which changes fan belt length. If you had the build code then they can give you correct belt. I can tell you a 219 in a 2520 takes a longer belt than a 219 in a 2030 because the water pump pulley position is different. Have them see if one of these applications work for you. DW

On both of these units the fan is mounted
on the waterpump pulley. There are only 3
pulleys involved on these engines..the
crankshaft, alternator, and waterpump/fan
pulley. I had intended to get a picture
of them today to post but thankfully we
have been receiving some much needed
thunderstorms.

That is the same mounting as the one I posted the R97758 belt was on, so that might fit yours.

A, B, C, D series belts are mainly for fractional horse power drives, power train drives, industrial drives, etc. An A49 belt crosses to A49 in other manufacturers. I believe JD sells the A&I A49 belt as an A-A49K.

If you can find a Gates 9490 belt, I believe it
will work since it is a wider width than an A
width belt. You mentioned that the belt rode
down in the pulleys, so the wider belt should
work.
