John Deere 1010 clutch issue

I have a John Deere 1010 with a clutch that will not fully disengage. The tractor sat for a couple years, not running. Motor has been fixed and is running. I’ve installed a new pilot bearing, a new throw-out bearing and new friction disc. The existing pressure plate fingers were adjusted using the JD 227 gauge.
I can start the tractor in gear with the pedal depressed. It does creep forward ever so slightly. If I start the tractor in neutral, I’m unable to shift it into gear. I understand that this is an unsynchronized transmission but I’m unable to get into a gear without stopping the motor. Any suggestions? Please and thank you

Welcome to the forums.

You say you adjusted the pressure plate fingers. That adjustment is too get the most life out of the new friction disc and provide a starting point to adjust free play. You haven't said that you adjusted the clutch pedal linkages to get the proper 3/4" free play. Do you do that?

I will decrease the free play and check all of the throwout bearing linkage as well as the yoke that harnesses the throwout bearing.
Thanks for the input and I’ll advise!

You used the JD227 gauge, so I am guessing you have a service manual, and the new clutch disc is in with the long side of the hub into the flywheel as shown in the manual (SM2033).

A combination of wear in linkage holes and pins can reduce throwout bearing travel when the pedal is pushed down.

After close inspection, I found that the clutch friction disc sustained damage, when incorrectly installed. The hub side was toward the throw-out bearing. When that issue was corrected, I did not notice that the disc sustained damage and one side was now concave. I’ve ordered a new friction disc and hope to be up and running soon.
I am new to this forum. I have never attempted any major repairs or maintenance. I had viewed the site on a few occasions and enjoyed the conversations that I saw.
Jim, thanks for your response, with that info, I was able to find the issue I had created and hopefully, be up and riding that 1010 in the spring!
Happy holidays to all!
