I have a John Deere 60 that cranks over but has no spark or power, I just started it yesterday and it ran just fine but today it does not want to run, i sanded and cleaned the points got a new battery and new spark plugs in it all the gauges worked and the lights worked yesterday when it ran but nothing works now it just cranks over.

The battery is directly connected to the starter, and the starter switch is mechanical.

There is a separate power connection that runs everything else. That wire is broken or corroded. I'm not familiar with John Deere so I don't know where it may be connected. On an IH there is a wire that runs from the large battery cable where it connects to the starter switch, to the ammeter. It may be the same on a John Deere, or different, or someone may have changed it over the years so it could be anything anywhere. You need to look for it.

The starting electricity passes through only the starter switch and starter + the cables. the supply to the ignition and lights has a bad wire or connection. Jim

Thanks guys, I found a yellow wire that comes from the flywheel and goes to the starter that is disconnected, I don’t know where it goes but I get a lead, thank you

That series was famous for the ground strap on the seat
frame causing trouble. Get an electrical lug that will handle
#00 or heavier copper wire & bolt it to the frame at a convenient
place. The other end can be stripped clean along with a place
on the original ground cable. Use an adequate size split bolt
to join the 2 cables
