I have a john deere 336 with a thrower. I don't know what model it is . The model plate is missing...but as soon as I start the baler the thrower comes up to the raised position and stays there until I shut the baler down.. im new to these throwers. Just didn't know where to start troubleshooting

The trip bar at the back opens a valve activating the cylinder. You could have one or more problems going out of several. The first thing I would do is inspect the manual part of the assembly for bends and make sure the springs are hooked up and moving freely. A picture might tell us if you have a 30, 40, or 42 ejector and there should be an ID plate unless it came off. It would be good to have a manual to help you trouble shoot your problems. Anyways, inspect bars, rods, and springs to make sure everything is straight and moving freely. If that changes nothing then you most likely have an issue with the valve.

Ok ill post a picture of it when I get home. There is an ID plate. It has a serial number. But it seems like the space for the model number got rubbed off

I just figured out that the trip lever is stuck and doesn't move freely.

On the valve is a cap retained with screws
Carefully remove cap and clean the little parts and all lube with light grease. Move spool to make sure it works freely.

How do I identify a 30 vs a 40 model? I want to order a manual but with my Google searching I can't figure out what model it is

The manual should be available in this link below. Click the download icon on the right side of the bar & you'll be good to go. Be sure you are downloading the right language! You can find the technical & parts manuals for the 30 there as well.... though, those downloads are not free.
