John Deere H transmission oil fill location?

This is a silly question, but I have been through every manual I can find, and have not run across the answer.

Where is the transmission oil fill on a 1941 John Deere Model H? I’ve seen a YouTube video that shows a recessed 3/4” square full plug on the left side of the steering column, but mine doesn’t have this. Mine has a raised square fill plug on the right side of the steering column (shown in the center of the attached photo). I’m 98% certain that this is the right fill location. I’m hopeful someone here can either confirm or point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

It depends on the serial number. Below S/N 10000, the fill plug was on the left (see the picture on the right), and all later tractors had the fill plug on the right side of the top transmission cover. It can be confusing, and the last operators manual didn't even show the fill location....

Thanks, Dan. Mine is S/N 37024, so the fill plug must be to the right of the steering column as I suspected.

Mind if I ask: what was the source of your illustration?

Thanks!

Those illustrations are from older Instructions and Parts Lists ("owners manuals") that were furnished with tractors until around the mid 1940's when those were replaced by "Operators Manuals".
