I am putting the JD L back together that I purchased dsiassembled. Engine is bolted down with the oil pan attached. Now working on the fan-pulley assembly. I noticed that the part called the thrust washer has the two tabs broken off. I cannot find where that part can be purchased. Any ideas on what I can do?

GOOGLE "DEERE L908T".

It's the same fan assembly as the model M used. Pretty cheap here and most other vendors.
Are you saying that I need to buy a fan assembly to get the thrust washer or that I can just buy the thrust washer? Thank you for the help.
Dan

The fan assembly on some of the Farmall A tractors uses a setup like that and so do Earthmaster and possibly the Massey Harris Pony may be the same. All these are thermo siphon systems and have their fans mounted like this. Also the John Deere "L" series of power units such as on the old pull type 12-A combines are made this way also.

If you know the OD, ID and thickness you can get the washer from Motion Industries of other bearing companies! Jim
Can you get one with the tabs that are bent down to fit into holes on the pulley? I do not see anything like that on the Motion Industries site.

I have been asking everyone selling JD L parts if they know how I can get a thrust washer for the fan assembly. No one has one. I would have to purchase a whole new fan assembly which would have the thrust washer as part of it. The question I have is if the thrust washer is necesssary and if the fan will work fine without it?
Thank you,
Dan

The two photos below depict the thrust washer that goes on the fan shaft. The tabs are bent to go into one of the pulleys on the shaft.

Why can't you use a plain washer on it?

Or carve one out of a body washer and make your own tabs.
it's a thrust washer and takes the load of the fan trying to pull itself forwards.

Possibly a brass washer or babitted steel washer (if one could be found) without the tabs would work and last a long time.

I agree.
Just get a brass washer and add a bit of grease occasionally.
It ain't like it is high speed or like you are going to be plowing 100 acres with it.

Thanks for the idea. I am making a brass thrust washer from some 20 gauge brass plate.
