Late B 3-pt Lift Capacity?

Hi everyone,

Just curious if anyone knows how much a 1949 B with a 3-pt would be able to lift. I'm looking at getting my Dad a rotary cutter and am looking at a 4-ft Dirt Dog that weighs 420 pounds per the manufacturer. Would the B be able to lift this without the front end going up? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the responses. The B does have the Power-Trol and not the Power-Lift, I should have clarified that in my opening post. The B is indeed light in the front end. We have a 3-point carry-all that we use the B for mainly and it sure makes the B handy (nothing very heavy of course). I guess that was my concern about a rotary cutter. I know it has the horsepower to handle a 5-footer but the weight of the mower when lifted is my concern that was making me think of a 4-footer instead (~420 pounds).

Why not leave the center link unhooked? That's the way I do my mower. I let the mower ride on the tail wheel in the back and raise and lower the front as needed.

I've used a 5 ft mower on a 48 A with 3pt but also have blown the power troll gasket.

Totally unrelated to the 3pt question, but it made me chuckle reading it. I couldn't help but think about the guy who posted one time, saying that he'd told a friend that he'd move a 14x70 mobile home for him with his B. It didn't matter how many times I told him he physically couldn't do it, there were plenty of folks advising him about mapping his route, chase cars, days and times to do it, like he could actually even let the jack down. It was like reading a trick question on a state devised test. I moved one with my 4040 one time and it didn't go well.

Certainly it will lift it if the old timer will. Yours is 1000 lbs heavier. Now I did see a 6 footer frontier single blade bush hog type beefed up that looked like a 4020 would need to lift it. But the cheap farm store light one have at it 6 foot if you want to cover your tracks you can always go narrower. You will want 2 suitcase weights probably for weight to keep the front end planted but I haven’t gotten bored enough to make the bracket yet it has worked without extra weight albeit just a hair light if you hit the right bump starting the turn steering with the pedal occurs...

Correction I believe it was a John Deere mower that looked like it would survive a nuclear explosion
