Here I have a 8 page brochure from 1963 on the Oliver 4 Wheel Drive Tractors
One reason I have this one today was because this Week there was a auction North of me that the Guy Had Collected and Fixed up Oliver Tractors
One of the Tractors He had was a 1968 1950-T 4 Wheel Drive that sold for $35000. You can see it pictured on Machinery Pete Facebook pages
I had bid on other items. But my Pockets are not That DEEP

IHC had a MFWD as an option on the 06 series about that same time frame .They had some issues with the Coleman front ends though I believe. Later they had Elwood axles they put on in place of the Coleman axle. At least I believe it was Coleman for the brand of the first axles then the Elwood for them. they were not that popular and yes Oliver made the MFWD famous to tractors. Wit several models available with it on them.

Nobody made tractors that looked any tougher than a 4WD Oliver or a White.
They were much tougher and more reliable than many modern tractors.we had 3 1950’s with the Detroit.not a fast tractor at work but it took going through some really boggy ground to get one stuck.especially with R-2 tread and 23.1-34’s on the back axle.loud though!!

They had good mufflers. It's only the guys who aren't secure in their manhood who put straight pipes on them now. "Hey, look at me! I'm making noise!".
yeah. not a fan of straight pipes. mostly since its not original since none of them came that way after the 10's 20's 30's (like AC WC with the short pipe out of the manifold for example).

Wow, that’s a great piece of history! Those Oliver tractors really hold their value—$35,000 for a ’68 1950-T is impressive. Must’ve been something special. Thanks for sharing the brochure too, always cool to see original materials from back in the day. Hope you scored something good at the auction!

I can't imagine spending the day(s) on the 1900 with that Jimmy screaming in your ears..
I spent a LOT of time on a 1950 when I was young and stupid for not wearing hearing protection at least while plowing at full throttle which is where the Detroit made a lot of its power

So when did the industry go from calling them 4 wheel drive to calling them front wheel assist?

Fairly recently. When those came out, about the only 4 wheel drives were lesser known manufacturers. I think it might have been Deere that made the differentiation when they started reusing numbers and had two 7520s.

Incorrect. 2 that I know of just off the top of my head that came straight piped from the factory were the Allis D19 and IH 1206. I’m sure there’s more if I do some digging.
