Marvel Schebler TSX616 Rebuilt but still leaking

Hello all,

I just rebuilt my TSX616 carb and I am still getting a steady drip coming from the Choke control is there a seal that I am not seeing?

I know the needle and seat work now, for sure (I can and CANNOT blow through it at the appropriate times).

But when I assemble the carb and install it, here comes the gas. I have adjusted the floats to 1/4"
I can't tell for sure but I think they are moving freely inside the bowl.

If I turn down the flow coming out of the gas tank the tractor runs because it is no longer flooded. But it does not run as well as it should, (because it is not getting a constant supply of gas)

Please help,

The float may be scrapping on the side of the bowl if not perfectly centered or otherwise hanging and not raising all the way up to close the needle valve. Check float pivot pin straight.

The float may be flooding from a small hole or barely visible crack. Shake the float may be some liquid in it. Sometimes you can find a barely visible crack along a seam by putting the float in the freezer for a couple hours. Submerse the cold float in very warm water to expand the cold air insides the float, you may see small bubble(s) along a seam or crack.

Personally I would just buy a new float it it is flooding or suspect in any way.

Thank you
I think that is very good advise

For peace of mind and a sure way to stop an occasionally leaking needle valve, installing a ball valve shut off will do it. The valve in the picture is a 1/8" nptf x 1/8" nptm which I have on all my gas tractors.
To add to Joe (wa)'s advice check the side to side play of the float as he has pictured. Sometimes the brass curl around the hinge pin is loose. A slight pinch which leaves the float free to move may remedy your problem.

You can try setting the float to 9/32 or 5/16. I have had a couple that worked better with the float set lower than the 1/4".

For checking and testing. Get the right size hose bib, put it in the bowl drain and attach a length of clear tubing to it. Lop the tubing up with the open end above where the carb bolts to the manifold. That will give you a visual gauge to see where the gas level actully is in the bowl when the engine is running. It should be that 1/4" below the gasket.

All good advice from you guys, the float is the main suspect, many are bent allowing the float to drag the side, A warning, never apply more down pressure on the float when inverted than the weight of the float, the neoprene seats have been known to cut with excessive pressure on the float. As one man noted the only way for gas to get into the carb is through the needle and seat unless there is a crack in the threads in the seat area, not impossible, I just had to braze an AC B carb there. Excellent advice from poster using a barb fitting and plastic hose to watch the fuel level.
