Massey 205 diesel 3 pt hitch weight limit?

I have a 205 diesel industrial with a 200 loader and torque converter with the pedals F and R for instant reverse and forward with no shifting. I believe this is the reason there is not PTO shaft on this tractor. Anyway, I'm using the tractor to lift some pretty heavy red oak logs along with the balast box I built for it. For some big logs

, the 3 pt leaks down pretty fast when I try to lift them up with my winch. My lift leaks down anyway with no weight or in my case I have about a 800lb concrete ballast block I made for it. Even when running it leaks down. It goes back up when I push on the forward or reverse pedal. I think this pedal/ transmission engages the 3pt pto pump so then it goes up. But not all the time with the log on it. I'm wondering if there is a weight limit to the 3 pt? I think it should be able to lift this log and ballast easily. Its only one end. Not the entire log off the ground. I'm Just lifting one end and wanting to drag it out of the woods. Once I get moving it seems to finally get the 3pt all the way up. It this just to much weight or is something leaking internally... Thanks for the help.

The 3 point should be able to lift 2850lbs, it should be able to hold a load up for a little while (if you can visibly see the 3 point drop down it needs seals). The pedal forward/reverse transmission makes it a good tractor for front loader work, but no so much for anything else except for something like a box blade on the rear.

Thank you for the answer I was looking for ptfarmer. Yep I'm not using it for pto work. Strictly dragging/skidding logs work and loader work. It really works fantastic for that other than the 3pt seeming to be week.

I have another issue I discovered while pulling these logs... It sounds like a bunch of crackling/grinding noise is coming from both axles. When I take the logs off, it doesn't make that noise. Only under load. I looked at the bottom of the axles and they are both leaking oil. So looks like I need new seals and while i'm in there new bearings. Maybe I'm just low on oil? Anything else it could be?

In the manual my tractor looks to have planetary gears in the axles hope those aren't screwed up. I have the instant reverser so is there anything different I should be doing on this type of transmission to replace the seals and bearing?

Remember the effect of the weight on the boom far out behind the three-point arms is greater than the same weight on the arms where it was rated.

Grinding coming from the axles when loaded is not a good thing. That sounds like failing bearing, seals don't often make noises.

Your 205 has outboard planetaries that have their own oil (90wt gear lube) that is separate from the rear differential (about 1 quart per side). That oil probably has never been checked, or changed, I would make exactly sure to find exactly where the noise is comming from because going through those planetaries isn't cheap, or easy.

Thanks ptfarmer. I will check oil level. Next will jack up rear end spin tires and see if i can hear anything. Not sure how to pinpoint noise location without taking apart. The noise Only comes under a load like dragging a log. Im planning on tearing down this spring and doing seals and bearings. The planetary gears scare me. Hoping its just bearings and not any planetary gears being broken or chewed up.
