Massey Ferguson Drawbar Support???

Had to move around my JD round baler, 4x4 model 335 and the tractor I had handy to use was my MF 50 diesel.

The drawbar is positioned correctly with respect to the end of the PTO shaft at 14ish inches.

However, from the end of the bracket under the tractor to the end of the drawbar, the drawbar sticks out quite a bit. Didn’t take a measurement of that, but it’s quite a cantilever compared to my JD tractor.

When I hooked up (empty) the round baler, that drawbar deflected down a bit - enough that it made me nervous.

I suspect this drawbar arrangement is similar to the 35, 135, 165, etc tractors.

I’m thinking about fashioning a drawbar support of some sort to counter this weight when needed.

Did MF offer any kind of add on drawbar support for these old tractors? Has anyone fashioned a drawbar support? Anyone broke a drawbar with a vertical load?

Thanks!
Bill

MF did have a wide swing drawbar available that did have support straps up to the diff case upper holes on each side of the top link, you could do the same thing. I've never seen a drawbar break, but I suppose it could happen.

My 165 came to me like this. Threads in the differential case stripped out from the weight of a bale wagon. My fil used what he had to get going. Over 20 years ago so good enough for my purposes. The bungee looped around the drawbar is just to take the place of a brake pedal return spring so I could finish cleaning the barn.

To me that looks like the drawbar should be swapped ends. I have a MF 135 and MF 451, neither of them stick out that far. The drawbars have 2 location holes for the under-belly pull-pin, only one on the end to hook up a baler, etc.
