My pto will not disengage all the way .It slows down but will not stop completely .how do i fix it .It also has the no clutch pto you just pull the lever to engage it

The "no clutch pto" is called an Independent PTO. Moving the lever engages and disengages a hydraulic clutch pack which drives the PTO. The PTO also has a brake that is supposed to stop the PTO when the lever is moved to disengage.

Is the PTO turning all the time with or without an implement attached? With an implement, like a rotary cutter, attached to the PTO does the PTO stop if you try to cut with the lever in the disengaged position?

If it is turning only with no load on the PTO it could be the brake has failed.

If it turns with a load on it, the hydraulic clutch pack could have warped or otherwise failed discs.

Do you have the service manual for your MF 175?

What Jim said. As an OLD MF mechanic I checked for burned/warped plates by turning the PTO shaft with engine OFF, shaft should turn easy as the hydraulic brake will not be on. If the shaft turns with a heavy drag, the clutch pack plates are warped/burned.

First check the pump relief pressure. There is a port at the cover near the clutch lever. Non Muti-power should be 125 psi. With Muti-power 175-200 psi I believe. (My manual isn't here). My 150 acted like yours. The filter for the IPTO pump was clogged. Unfortunately the top cover has to come off to access.

2nd that brake wasn't designed to STOP the rotational force. It's surface area is about 1 square inch. I believe it is to hold the shaft from turning due to oil surface tension when disengaged.

No I don't have a manual just got the tractor last year. The pto will not try to cut with it disengaged .I can almost stop it with my hand but just can not quit and yes it turns all the time.
I have to shut the tractor off to hook the pto shaft up to it.

Is there a filter under the cover like tom said om the 175

There are two SCREENS inside but the lift cover needs removed to get at them, and they are not your trouble anyway. Years ago dad's 180 had the same trouble, clutch pack plates were warped/burned and with no load the PTO turned all the time as the brake is not strong enough to stop with damaged plates. Warped plates will STILL pull a heavy load fine once the clutch piston is applied though.

Did you try turning it by hand with the tractor shut down, as Dieseltech suggested to help decide if it is the brake not working or the clutch pack?
