MF 255 Gear Shift

I have a 1986 MF255 with multipower shifter that got stuck in gear the other day. I was able to get it out of gear and the High/Low shift is working fine however the tractor goes forward when in reverse gear now. I have already checked through the fill hole that all the shift levers are free because I've had one stick from a bad shift in the past. Trying to think of a reason why it would travel forward in reverse gear. It also doesn't seem to go into neutral until i move the H/L shift into neutral where as before it would not try to take off on you if you moved the gear selector to neutral and left the H/L engaged.

3 or 4 speed transmission and what gear did it get stuck in. Sounds like one of the shift rails is out of place and the lever has jumped out of that gate, leaving it stuck in a forward gear. With all the gates (the slot on the rail the lever fits in) in neutral they should line up so the end of the lever can get into each on. The H-S-L range selector lever is a separate section from the transmission where your issue is.

Thanks. It is a 4 speed got stuck in 1st. It does seem like it could be stuck in gear still. When I checked it though the fill hole the rails appeared to be aligned and the shifter could travel across but I think I will have to remove the cover to see what is going on the end of the shift rail.
