MF 275 Wiring

I bought a MF 275 with a butchered wiring harness. Alternator went out and installed a 1 wire alternator. Does anybody have a diagram to wire up the new alternator? What do i do with the other wires that went to the ampmeter and the oil switch ?

Do you have an Operator's manual, that likely has the original wiring diagram in it. The one wire alternator output wire should go to the same place the old alternator's output wire went to. That should just be unhooked from the old alternator battery output post and moved to the new alternator's output post. The two wires on the spade terminals can be discontinued. You need the oil pressure switch to provide power to the gauges on most Massey Fergusons, so you need to keep that.

Yes I do have the wiring schematics for the original way it was wired. If you look at the wiring diagram one wire goes to the ampmeter
negative side . So will the ampmeter work with just the negative side going to the starter solenoid ?

No. An ammeter should have a wire from the starter solenoid on one terminal and the alternator output wire and any load wires (ignition, starter switch, lights, etc.) on the other terminal of the ammeter. An ammeter shows current passing through the meter and if the needle moves to + it is charging, - it is discharging.

Can you post a picture of the wiring diagram you are looking at? The closest I have is a 245 diagram, I believe it is similar, and it shows multiple wires on the ammeter terminals. Saying you have an oil pressure indicates a diesel, is that correct? Gas engines generally did not use the oil pressure switch.

You have the same diagram I have . Yes it is diesel . Where do I land the wire from the alternator regulator to the Oil Pressure switch ? Or
do I eliminate that wire also ?

If you have a one wire alternator, you can eliminate the wire from the oil pressure switch the alternator #1 spade terminal and the wire from the alternator #2 spade terminal to the ammeter. The large wire from the alternator output post to the ammeter remains as shown.

Thank you for the help. I was rewiring everthing and I agree on removing those 2 wires completely. Just worried didnt want to go up in
flames. Thank You Jim !
