Probably gas in the starter tank and kerosene in the main tank

It will use a lot of fuel when it's running on gas, but it saves a lot of hassle. Enough to make it worth your while.

I was at an antique engine and tractor show in Arizona a couple of years ago and there was a beautiful old large stationary engine running. As I remember it ran a line shaft in a shipyard in Scotland during WW1, it was running very smooth and quiet, I asked the operator what they were using for fuel, he said Jet-A! Apparently, that's very close to what distillate was, maybe a little better. Like Jim said, if an engine is working harder, it can burn lower grade fuels

Sorry for the dumb questions but I’ve never owned a duel fuel tractor

Not dumb at all, I’ve been around a while and been around a few dual duel tractors back when I was a little kid, but would have to ask the same questions myself today…..

Jet-A would make an excellent fuel. It's more dry than Diesel tho. Russ, was that in a spark ignition engine or a Diesel?
Fmf, if you like certain rules to run other fuels than gas only, use gas for starting and warm up then switch to Diesel.
BUT as said, it must be very warm but it likely will do it so get a curtain made up for your radiator.
Theoretically it could be done. Hopefully, the manifold is good enough to allow it.
It will not start on Diesel.

You'll still have to start it on gas and get it warmed up before switching it over. You'll also have to switch it back to gas before shutting it down to get the fuel out of the carburetor or it won't start next time. Easier to just run it on gas all the time.

This is good stuff. In the spirit the creator intended.

Like others have said running under full load for hours would be the only way to run it on kerosene. Not worth the bother in my mind. Probably would not start on kerosene if the engine or ambient outdoor temperature is cold.

3/4 diesel and 1/4 gas mixed and it will run when warmed up good and switched over from gas.
I think Mark-la has the right idea. Dad did that with our JD D when "power fuel" became unavailable. Can't remember if he started it on gas like was done when burning the power fuel which I understand was similar to distillate. 3/4 - 1/4 sounds about right.

run the Fordson on 87 most of the time , but I do used 90 when I can find a Sheetz with it ,it goes for 4.50 a gallon .

And running like you would, not in field under a full load, it and probably only a short time it would never get hot enough to run the kerosine. We had 2 Deere with the 2 fuel tanks and only ran gas all the time, just used the small tank as a spare incase ran low. And running on kerosine they would not put out the power as on gas. Never had diesel but as I understand diesel is a oily fuell and that would foul the plugs in a very short time.. Like a tractor that is supposed to run on gas but uses a lot oil.
