miserable PTO adjustment for 730 Comfort King

Man , that was aggravating to do ,,.. And It is Finally done and working right LIKE IT SHOULD ,,. I removed the fender raised the axle 6 inches and sat on a bucket ,, I used a PTO shaft to turn the pto to locate the SINGLE pin on this 730 Comfort King 8349335 1968-69 yr build. I learned it was not a counterclockwise titen style after i spun the cussed collar about 6 notches , ,,. So I gave that up and schemed on How to tihten Clockwise which will be a pain to anyone that has never done this ,,. So This is what i did , Workingthru that miserable small hole ,, after locating pin and rolling it up to 12 oclock position , i placed 2 6 inch 3/8 extensions together with the base on one of the tripods for the spin collar , the extensions were wedged against the inside of the hydrulic levers and would stay at that angle while i tapped the end of the extension with a hammer ,,..while SIMULTANIOUSLY holding the pin forward ,,. Once the collar moves a bit you can relax the hold on the pin , continue tapping until you see the pin drop in ,then repeat by rotating pto to 12 o clock again , disengage
PTO ,get down in that position that big guys cant do easily and tap the extension again while holding the pin out ,,,. . I had to do this at least a dozen times ,,. THERE are no Lor R anywhere to clue any poor mechanic working on thiss tractor which way to go ,,. The book was helpful , But grossly optimistic of stating that this is EASY to move by hand ! ,,. I had to use a HAMMER ! I have adjusted a dozen or more of these type of clutchs over My last 55 yrs.. And I must say this one was the worst one i ever beat .

I'll agree. Mine was so loose on the 930 that no matter which way you turned the collar it didn't tighten. Finally removed the pto housing. Pin must have came out while running and completely loosened the collar. Miserable job not knowing which way to turn the collar.

I guess I have been lucky. I used the jack handle from a 15 ton bottle jack to pull pin out and mine have all turned by hand. With that said who knows about next time.
