Hoping I can get some help on my current project. It is proving difficult to find information on the cultivator and parts for my LA.
My grandfather had an LA and I learned how to drive on it. He sold it before I was old enough to have a need for one. His had the plow, sikle bar mower, cultivator and homemade snow plow. I tried to locate the owner who purchased it but had no luck.
I purchased mine last October. It has been re-painted unfortunately (I like original) but other than having to replace the brake linings, is in very good operational condition.
The tractor came with no attachments so I found an L12 cultivator and single bottom plow online. From what I found out, it is an L12 cultivator but has solid, inside, front shafts with no spring trips on them. Instead, there are angled pieces that look like someone fabricated to cultivate weeds. I actually fabricated a set of replacement pieces from a lawnmower blade to use until/if I get the correct shanks/trips.
I would like to get the correct front inner shanks (1 1/8" shaft I believe) with spring trips and replace the worn shovels and sweeps that are on the other C tine spring teeth. I am pretty sure the manual shows the original configuration with all shovels, but I would like to have the front outer and rear inner tines with sweeps.
This site has been the best resource for finding information about this tractor. I have hit a brick wall in not only finding original sweeps and shovels, but even replacement sweeps with the same bolt spacing (1 1/2") and shafts with spring trips.
My plan is to use this to cultivate my 80x200 garden. Mainly sweet corn, beans, peas and also for hilling potatoes. I think I can maybe find 12" discs to mount to the existing shafts, but would need to have the replacement shafts with trips for cultivating.
I am actually really excited about using this tractor. It will bring back a lot of great memories.
Any help on part numbers, resources, sources for parts (I would prefer original but would use newer if I need to) would be appreciated.
My hope is to have something that will last another 72 years and I can hand down to my grandkid, one is on the way in October.
Thanks in advance.
Mike
