Need Distillate Farmall H Fuel Lines S/N 501-50865

Hello,
I recently purchased a 1939 Farmall H. It is a distillate model with a 1-gallon starting tank for gasoline. The way you control what fuel you are using consists of an on/off valve on the main tank leading to a fuel line going to the sediment bowl, which is mounted on the small tank. So when you want gas, you turn on the sediment bowl, and when you want to switch to distillate, you turn off the sediment bowl and turn on the valve under the main (distillate) fuel tank. From what I know, before S/N 50866, this is the system that was used, and from S/N 50866 and up, they put the sediment bowl on the main tank and the valve on the starting tank. You can buy reproduction fuel lines from countless sites, but they are ALL for S/N 50866 and up. I have looked for reproduction, NOS, and used fuel lines for distillate tractors before S/N 50866, but try as I might I could not find a single result. I have included a photo of what this setup looked like, there are numerous threads on numerous forums discussing how early H's used this slightly different setup. If anyone has any questions or knows where I could buy these fuel lines, please let me know.

Thats the first time I've seen the sediment bowl under the small tank. My 43 H was set up for distillate and the sediment bowl was under the big tank. I guess the only thing that changes is the length of the fuel lines.

You will not buy them. U need to make them. That is kind of a goofy set up. The bowl should be in the big tank the small tanks used to have a small bowl.

Hello Noah, welcome to YT! It looks like you just have the positions of the valve and sediment bowl switched. The line you are looking for is not illustrated in the parts catalog. As is said it needs to be made. The line is probably in the parts list in the avspare link with no diagram key number but the descriptions are so similar it is hard to tell which PN is the right one. Makes no difference because it is made of “unobtainium”
Avspare Farmall H fuel system (beware of the adds in that link)

The 39s are special machines. About a year ago there was a guy on here insisting he wanted to rebuild his H engine using distillate pistons so he could run it on distillate. I don’t think he had a ‘39. I think he got frustrated because so many guys tried to talk him out of it. Wonder if he was happy with how his project came out?

Must have missed that one. So.... where exactly was this fellow going to source some distillate? :ROFLMAO:

Use the copper nickel line it will be more readily bendable without kinking for your job and the flares can be put on the last end before installing without getting your spring stuck on the line. Don't for get to put the nuts on the line before flaring. Dont ask .

My 1940 H has the sediment bowl on the small tank. You can't see it in this picture, but I have a 1/4 turn ball valve on the big tank. the line from the sediment bowl just makes a loop and connects to that valve. Not original I know, but I'm more into function than "correctness".

Here is a link to his post, it was in 2022. Post on 1944 Distillate H Maybe I didn’t realize it at the time, but I am sure I did I am good about seeing what a member posted on previously when they seem to be swimming against the current. I helped him over the phone in 2023 to fix up the TA on the cheap in a 450 Diesel he had bought. At that time he was 15, so when he was messing with the H he was 14. Made the money to buy the H and 450 running a lawnmower/small engine repair business. His parents were divorced and he lived with his mother, I believe in the state of Maryland.

Don't know if can be found. Line 55475 DX went from shut off valve under big tank to strainer under little tank. Line 52644DX went from strainer to carburetor. Gets really confusing when trying to figure out. Part of is thread size was changed in tank opening part way through strainer use in small tank. then if finding a tractor with the set up it may not be original because IH had some change over kits. One reason was to lessen chance of fire with some attachments with strainer under small tank. If you have just a original shut off valve under big tank does it have 1/4 pipe threads or 3/8. 3/8 pipe size after start was used until end of production.

here is the proper way to hook that setup was . just looked at my 1949 w6 as it has the starting tank. all original setup.

H Tractors after the serial poster is asking about used the shut off in little tank and strainer in big tank. But before that it was the other way. Find a 39 or 40 H owner's manual. Has picture and explains how to start and operate with distillate or kerosene with strainer at little tank. Another reason for change to later type was to help with vapor lock.

From a H manual printed Jan. 1940. Not a very clear picture.
