Muir hill We plowed at first with a D-4 diesel that grandpa bought in about 1937 or so had an Oliver plow for it. Then later dad bought a NO 6 traxcavator ( basically a D-6 with a loader on it) from his cousin and used 6 16's on it. Should have had 8 16's or 18's to pull. Back in the 70's it was hard to find a plow bigger than 6 bottom around here guys were still using their 2-4 bottom mounted anchors. I liked the trailer plows if it was a wet spot and you were stuck .Quite often if you quit right away you could unhitch and chain the plow out or on through then hook back up and go one just leaving the wet spot if needed. With the D-4 we would quite often just drop into the furrow and pull the plow on through if it was a bit wet then come back up on the land the rest of the time if only a few times you could straighten it back out by the way you drove crowding and squeezing the plow to the land. With the 4 bottom and planting White beans we would start a land in the middle of the field short by quite a bit the plow across the ends till it got out to the edge much like they plant wheat in the wheat belt of the plains around the field only we didn't turn the corners we always had to go out and make a small circle then drop the plow back in so it kept a square corner till the edge of the field. This reduced the amount of dead furrow to fill and leave a depression and kept the field level. We also plowed in one year and out the next to keep the side level with the rest of the field. I hope this answers your question.
