Poor battery connection!

Today my 9N/2n was having trouble starting. I tried the headlights, they were very dim. I have been putting off cleaning one terminal on my 6V battery, well today it did not want to start. I hooked my 12V booster box to the starter, and the old battery was able to push a few volts through to the coil, and the engine started. Note the 12V booster was only for the starter, I did not press the tractor's normal start button! That would have put 12 Volts where it was not wanted. I expect to say a little more tomorrow.

Funny part is that while it's running, that VR is not getting the right signal and the genny is working trying to charge a seemingly dad battery.
So, yeah, it's running and it's running the life out of the rest of the electrical system.

With the time it took to mess with jumping it, you could have cleaned the battery terminals and the problem would have been solved

Its a good time to build on knowledge of how the system works. A voltmeter is all that's needed to perform a voltage drop test and test the battery. Of course no one whats to take the time to learn these simple things if they did the first question they would ask to help addressee the issue would be what is the voltage. Battery voltage before and during the event will help you take the right fork in the road... Voltage drop the connection they are right there under your nose: Its so simple : )

Some people spend a lot of extra time changing parts simply because they don't believe that a connection that looks fine can also be a connection that isn't doing the job like it's supposed to do. Take them apart and clean them with a file or sandpaper. That way you know they are good. A bright and shiny connection is a good connection.

You nearest auto supply should carry a battery post / cable clamp cleaner. Inexpensive and easy to use.

Good evening, Jim-L-WA and others: I cleaned the positive terminal and clamp parts with baking soda, then with my post/clamp cleaner tool from parts store, then re-assembled. The tractor started fine on just the normal 6V battery. I spent the most time on this job looking for my tools. Thanks for suggestions!
