Just looking for some advice and help. Im looking to repair one of my grandfathers Ford 801s. It seems the back rim has rusted out due to calcium leaking. Tire size is 13.6-28. First question: what size rim would I need to replace it? Second: would the tire need to be replaced? Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks!

6 loop rims are econical to replace and if PA going to harder to fix. I use other junk rim and replace bad sections.

you would need a 12x28 rim for that size tire ;the tire may or may not be good, depends on condition of rubber. definitley new tube . some times they are so bad the entire thing [rim, tire and tube] should be tossed.

Bingo.

Standard size tire/rim for 8** series tractors is 13.6X28 on 11 inch rim as properly measured.

I just went through this with one of my Ford 3000 rims. One rusted through and popped the tube around the valve stem, and the other rim looked like it was headed that was. I found a pair of used 13.6x28 tires mounted on 12x28 rims for 200$ on FBM. The tires were in better shape than mine, and the rims looked decent.

I priced those new rims out too, and I think with shipping Amazon had the best price. For a 12x28 rim.

RE: sourcing rims -

Check with your Ag tire servicer. I replaced rims on a 4500 this year and because the tire dealer gets regular (weekly) truck deliveries he was able to provide the rims for the same price as the cheapest online sellers but without any shipping costs.

If your tires have fluid in them, you'll need his services anyway. Fluid in the tires results in a more stable, more useful tractor but the valves have to be changed every 5-10 years or at the first sign of any leakage (air pressure or fluid). I keep some valves in stock so it only takes a few minutes to make the change when needed, get a couple extra from the tire service.

If you have power adjust rims you'll probably end up online, they are not commonly available. I've purchased them from Walt's tractor and they fit perfectly.

Yea they were filled with calcium. Ill check around and see if theres any AG tire services around my area. Thanks for the info!

Be advised that many Ford 801 series tractors were equipped with Ford power adjust rims. For many years these were no longer available from any supplier and serviceable used ones are very difficult to find.
Recently, Chinese reproductions have become available but they are quite expensive.

If your rims are held to the wheel centers by 4 clamps, you have the more problematic power adjust rims. If held to the wheel centers with 6 bolts, you have the easy to find six-loop versions.
