Stuck Governor Yanmar 1601d

Hello,

I recently purchased a ym 1601d tractor (3T75U motor) with a throttle stuck (runaway throttle). The person I bought it from said he went to start it after letting it sit all winter and the throttle ran away after starting it. I found a couple videos talking about stuck governor for this type of tractor but could use a little more info.

Does anyone have a link to literature, pictures, or videos of maintenance procedure for the governor. I found manuals to buy but I thought I might ask if anyone could be so kind as to share a link for information that was available online ;)

Posting the videos I've seen incase there is interest in seeing those.

Here are the manuals I am planning to buy as well.

I'm ASSUMING this is a diesel and the symptoms point to a stuck "rack" in the injection pump as being more likely than something with the actual governor.

But, of course, something else COULD have happened

I have no specific help to add, I just mentioned this to suggest that you broaden your search to include info on the innards of the injection pump.

I also have no specific knowledge of that tractor. Post links to the videos you found so we can view them to determine if what they suggest is feasible. To post a link you can just paste it right in here usually works in this new software. What I am saying here is loosely based on what wore out said.

If this is the engine with the injector pump cast as part of the block, there are a couple things to check.

If it has an electric shut-off, unscrew the solenoid from the back of the pump and see if the rack will move when the manual shut-down lever on the timing gear cover is operated, observing through the hole where the solenoid was. If you have movement here, something is disconnected or broken in the governor system , giving no governor control, and the timing cover will have to come off .

If you DO NOT have movement, the plungers could be gummed up or the control rod has become disconnected from the rack. Either of these conditions can be checked by first thoroughly cleaning the top of the pump and unbolting the pump assembly and carefully lifting it up out of the cam box. Lift it only far enough to see if the governor rod, which is actually a flat strap, is attached to the rack; it is secured with a tiny hairpin. If disconnected, there’s your answer. If intact, one or more plungers are stuck/ damaged.

To remove the pump completely, lift the pump very carefully , taking care not to bend that strap, until you can grab the hairpin with slender needle nose. Wrap some wire around your pliers and magnetize them, this will help keep from dropping the hairpin in the cam box.

Keep the shims intact on the pump assembly, they control the injection timing.

Thank you for your insight, I have posted the links for you to view the videos if you like.

Tractordata information says you have a 3 cylinder engine in your tractor. The top two videos show 2 cylinder engines. The bottom video is a 3 cylinder with what I would call a “unit pump” or “separate” from the engine. Is this what you have? Three lines from it to an injector on each cylinder. Those are the type that are a bit tricky for the average guy to pop open and repair.

Fair point, thank you.....

Here is a decent video to show how to repair a stuck plunger, though I realize it is not necessarily exactly like the one I have, the concept is similar
Looks like you will need to post the tubers name and video name.
Looks like the question I wanted to ask didn’t make it into my last post. Does your tractor have the separate pump as shown in the last video?

Sorry about that: So the youtubers name is tractors&marine MECHANIC and the video clip is called "how I fix a stuck up injector pump (L1802,....L2601) and I will need to get back to you about the pump, I just got the tractor a couple days ago and was just in the preliminary research phase of fixing the tractor;)

Have you tried posting this down in the site's Manufacturer's section on the Yanmar Forum? There were several knowledgeable Yanmar Yanmar guys that arrived here when the site's forum software changed and the Yanmar Forum from HOYE Tractors was brought over here by Partsasap. Here is a link to that Forum.

I took a couple of photos for "used red MN" to try to answer the question about the type of injector this tractor has.

Hello Fritz,

So, I think I have what you are describing and I attached a couple photos for verification if possible.

At first look I don't see an electric solenoid for the fuel shut off.

This is great step by step instruction and I really appreciate you taking the time.

What you have there is the throttle and shut-down combined. You will have to take it apart to determine the problem.
